Choosing A Stone

CHOOSING A STONE

When choosing a countertop surface, it is important to research the pros and cons of each product of interest.  We encourage each homeowner to explore the options available and choose the stone that best fits their lifestyle.

Q: I heard that granite and quartz countertops could not be scratched, is this true?

A: No, granite and quartz countertops are scratch resistant, but not scratch proof.  It is possible to scratch or knick the surface of your countertop if they are abused.

Q: Can you cut directly on your stone countertops with knives?

A: Yes, but we recommend that you use a cutting board when using knives.  Though the knives are highly unlikely to cause damage to your countertops, your countertops will quickly cause your knives to dull.

Q: What kind of stone should I use on my outdoor kitchen?

A: We have installed granite, soapstone, travertine, and limestone in outdoor kitchen areas.  In this climate it is acceptable to install natural stone in outdoor environments; however we do recommend that outdoor kitchens be covered.  Quartz surfacing is not warrantied by the manufacturer for outdoor use because UV rays can cause the stone to yellow over time.
